📣 Arts East-West’s First Look at BIFF: Master Class 📣

5 world-renowned masters of film art.

A chance to reflect on their artistic legacy and learn from their lifelong cinematic journeys.

The 31st edition of BIFF presents “Master Class,” a premier program featuring 5 international filmmakers who will give a talk about their time in film. Meet the masters: 

‍

• NA Hong-jin (South Korea): Enter the cinematic world of Na Hong-jin — impossible to define, impossible to predict. Characterised by violent thriller and horror elements, his works include Hope (2026), The Wailing (2016), and The Yellow Sea (2010). 

‍

• Alfonso CUARÓN (Mexico): Multiple Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón has continually redefined cinema through profound emotional depth. With a career spanning more than 30 years, his works include Roma (2018), Y tu mamá también (2001), and Children of Men (2006). 

‍

• Lav DIAZ (Philippines): Meeting Korean audiences after about a decade, Lav Diaz has long engraved history's scars and human time onto the screen. Known as a key figure in the slow cinema genre, his works include Magellan (2005), The Woman Who Left (2016), and Batang West Side (2001). 

‍

• Bertrand MANDICO (France): Mandico dissolves the lines between reality and fantasy, breaking all conventions from genre to gender. His singularly creative vision includes works such as The Wild Boys (2017), After Blue (2021), and Roma Elastica (2026).

‍

• RINTARO (Japan): A living legend of Japanese animation, Rintaro shaped the medium's foundational visual language alongside Tezuka Osamu. His iconic works include Metropolis (2001), X (1996), and The Dagger of Kamui (1985). 

‍

Each of these master classes offers the opportunity to learn the secrets behind these artistic visions in their own words – providing unique insights that cannot be found elsewhere.
