CALL FOR ESSAYS — Asian Screen Culture in Quebec

AAPLab, in partnership with the 13th Montréal Asian International Film Festival (MAiFF), invites emerging and established writers, artists, researchers, and creators to submit essays reflecting on Asian film and media events that took place in Montréal between January and June 30, 2026.

We are seeking critical and creative responses from the Asian diaspora and pan-Asian film and media arts communities that engage with the evolving landscape of Asian screen culture in Quebec.

Submissions may include:
• Text Essays (5–8 pages)
• Photo Essays (10–15 pages)
• Video Essays (5–10 minutes)

We welcome:
• Critical analysis
• Personal reflections
• Community perspectives
• Creative responses

AAPLab (Asian Arts Publication Lab) is a Montréal-based research and creation laboratory dedicated to fostering inclusive and decolonial dialogue surrounding Asian arts, diaspora, and media culture. As a year-round project of Arts East-West, AAPLab creates spaces for artists, scholars, and communities to share ideas and reimagine connections between East and West through art and media.
