On June 6th, our Intercultural Encounters event took place in the beautiful and inspiring open space of Centre Création Danse Nyata Nyata.
As part of the 12th edition of KFFC, we were honoured to gather in a venue where movement, culture, and dialogue come together with intention and creativity.
This special evening was designed as an opportunity for connection, exchange, and discovery—a celebration of our neighbouring arts communities and the diverse individuals who bring them to life.
Arts East-West, our non-profit media arts organization based in Montréal since 1995, has a long-standing commitment to fostering intercultural collaboration. Years ago, we had the pleasure of partnering with Nyata Nyata, and this year, we were proud to reunite to bring this Intercultural Encounters event to life once again.
We presented the powerful documentary Maboungou: Being in the World by Marlene Millar and Philip Szporer, which explores the life and legacy of the distinguished dancer, philosopher, founder, and artistic director Zab Maboungou. The screening was accompanied by three short films by Asian Canadian artists — a tribute to the rich tapestry of voices shaping our cultural landscape.
For this occasion, our team transformed the Nyata Nyata Dance Centre into a welcoming cinema space, creating an immersive and thoughtful film experience. From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., our teams worked in shifts of 6 to 8 hours to bring every detail together.
Thanks to Elli Miller Maboungou for the magnificent live tambour performance, their team and especially to Leonora Moncada!
Thanks to my dear friend Janet Lumb.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved—triple bravo to the entire team!
