12th KFFC: EMW Shorts

This vibrant shorts film program brings together fresh voices from Asian Canadian communities —from powerful personal stories, these compact films explore what it means to navigate multiple worlds today.

Discover bold new perspectives as emerging and established talents push creative boundaries. Each film captures moments of connection, identity, and the universal human experience, proving that great stories don't need length to leave a lasting impact.

1. Moving Water (2024, Kaia Singh, 13 min)

A young biracial woman, Mira (18), struggles to find her place and purpose amongst her family members as they grieve the death of her Baba (grandfather). As the cremation takes place and the preparations are being made for the spreading of the Baba’s ashes Mira attempts to mend the estranged relationship she has with her Dadi (grandmother) in hope of finding familial and cultural validity for her grief.

2. I Leave My Little Heart in My Mother's Chest (2024, Sawsan AlSaraf, 6 min)

Reflecting on the passage of time and the influence of nature, the project is a short film and installation featuring my mother’s wooden cabinet.
